Kärt Ojavee

Die 1982 geborene, aus Estland stammende Künstlerin studiert seit 2004 Textildesign (MA) an der estländischen Kunstakademie in Tallinn. Neben dem Studium arbeitet sie an der Kunsthochschule als Tutorin und Assistentin für ein „Future Design“-Projekt. Für ihre Diplomarbeit „Last Unicorn“ im Jahr 2003 erhielt sie einen Innovationspreis. 2005 gründete sie die Textildesigngruppe Disainkompain, deren Arbeiten 2007 mit dem Preis für junge Textilartisten ausgezeichnet wurden. Darüber hinaus ist Kärt Ojavee Mitglied der Band Pia Fraus (Stilrichtung Indie/Shoegazing), in welcher sie seit 1998 Synthesizer spielt und mit der sie schon mehrere Alben veröffentlichte.

On the exhibition would be two of my installations

One consists the tablecloths on transparent tables, the other 13 t-shirts on transparent shelf. Both of them would use stains as a part of pre-planned pattern on them. It plays with the charm of coincident. The additional power that spoils things usually for only just a moment, has gained a different meaning, turning into rather a virtue. Completely unexpectedly appeared stain becomes here an awaited part of the pattern. The 13 t-shirts are looking all the same, and they really are all the same, only if you pure some wine on, a pattern will appear, the armour – which directs the attention to a fish-pattern. So they vary only because of the character of the stain. (Technically it is done with a special textile processing, that can be also named authors technique.) The same happens with the tablecloth, only in this case the pattern depends on and plays with a various eating-cultures and table-manners.
